Score: 10
"We're Starfox!"

"Corneria, Fourth Planet of the Lylat Sytem..."

submission: "We're Starfox!"
date: June 16, 2009

Let me just start out by saying that, wow. I am impressed! Starfox 64 has long been a favorite game of mine, and this is like the ultimate fan movie for it.

The visuals were good, not spectacular or anything, but nice stylistic choice to make them a litle more cartoony. Also, nice use of blurring on things in the foreground, and more importantly, very good detailing of the backgrounds. The animations were smooth and the characters felt very "alive." The constant blinking and and well drawn emotions really lent to the believability of the characters.
The scenario was very funny, especially the opening scene, "Who are you guys?" "We're Starfox!" I was cracking up because whenever I play the game, I'll quote the game as I play it, and the opening level is a classic.
The "cocky little freak!" line was classy as that level is one of my fav's in the game. It feels very Gundam-esque don't you think?
Over all the Quotes were used perfectly, and there were several momemts that are instant gems. The "Fox that's one of ours!" when Fox throws Bills food is a perfect example. Technically the audio mixing here was very impressive as quotes never seemed to bleed over into eachother, and in most cases if not all, they were clear and not fuzzy at all.
That brings me toanother point: the music. I left the title screen playing for like 5 minutes because for one, I didn't realize that the planets were the play button and scene select and all that, I was waiting for someone to start the game lol, and second because I just wanted to listen to the music. Once again great audio quality!
Now for one aspect that so many flash artist forget to consider is the presentation; however, yours was spot on. The way you get the expository feel of the game with the opening "press start" screen really drew me as a viewer into the movie: al my focus was immediately drawn to it. Also, the layout of the bonus material was just brilliant in its accesibility. Concept art that you could see practically all at once without having to navigate through slews of screens, followed by delted scenes that just started playing right there when you clicked them... it was just top-notch.
I bet you probably can guess the score by now. Because of good visuals, smooth animation, a funny scenario with even funnier Laugh out loud moments, clear and beautiful audio, and first class presentation to put some icing on that wonderful Starfox Fan cake you made deserves no less than a 5 out of 5. And trust me, I'm coming back to the kitchen for seconds, yah Cocky Little Freak!

Microcock Windows Pista

"Great Refrences"

date: January 14, 2009

Wow, I don't even know where to begin.
Let's see, for starters it had Really Great Graphics. Everything looked good, clicked fine, moved well. Overall Presentation was top notch.

The Music quality was excellent.
Nice Amount of stuff to find and see.
Perfect representation of all the problems with Vista.
I just got it, and wow every time I boot up, it seems I have a million horrible problems plaguing my machine. So great representation in the beggining.

Tons of humor, everything was funny... Well except for the Osama BJ thing.. That was kinda gross.. But hey you put in there for some reason.. apparently.

The Very best moment in the whole "game" was when You click on "Winamp" and it starts playing Pantera.. Then Low and behold, "Windows Pista Hates your taste in music. Now Changing it." .... Then comes David Byrne from His Album, "Look into the Eyeball" comes, "Like Humans Do." I fell out of my chair laughing, becasue on our old P.C. with the Brand new XP OS on it, every time I pulled up ANY music File, That Song would play!!! That brought back so many memories. That was the perfect little Gem in your flash.

Great job 5/5 and 10/10.

Cardboard City

"Pure Brilliance."

submission: Cardboard City
date: July 13, 2008

Wow, when I read the reviews to this, I wasn't expecting much of a movie, but it occured to me after I watched it that people really just don't get it.

This movie is a perfect example of artistic expression in art meshing with artistic expression in music. The contrast between jazz, music that really has no shape until it is played, with the rigid, unchanging form of cardboard really pulls in the viewer on a very subtle level. It makes them unconsciously hooked onto the movie, and thats why even if they found it "boring" they watched the whole way through.

The animation was great in every piece, and especially on the subway scenes. The feeling of movement was conveyed wonderfully with the speed being more than adequate, and the bland characters each having their own persona even though they did nothing. Thats where I realized how much of a wonderful artist all of you were. If you can convey the sense of being in a living, breathing environment like that, then you truly can claim to be a "flash artist."

The world just reverberated with life, and made me want to visit it. And its very rare that a flash movie moves me to react emotionally. I really felt as if I were part of a city, and as I said, wanted to go there.

Everything about it was brilliant, and just I am so very impressed. The pacing was another highlight of the movie. Some may find it "slow", but what they don't realize is that its showing you the main points of the city while keeping the tone that the music so wonderfully lays out. Most movies try to either force the tone of the music, or just let it fade away into background noise. All of you on the otherhand nailed it perfectly.

I really cannot give this movie enough praise, as it deserves to be in the top ten movies of Newgrounds. Not only is it innovative, artistic, and all around believable, its just the epitome of a grand flash movie.

My score is obviously a five out of five, and rightfully deserved. This is truly a high-water mark for flash movies, and every author should strive for excellence like this.

Oh and on a side note, great game at the begging, my highscore was 11,693 XD.

Once again, great movie, and I really expect to see more whenever you submit, as Im positive it will be jsut as good or better.

oh I love you Shadow-Fox-Ninja :)

I remember you reviewed a lot of my early stuff and really liked it too, its nice to hear from you!

music is the mortar if animation is the stone, in the great brick wall of flash :) both are needed, technically you could stack bricks on top of each other, but it would be very likely to fall down, and on the other hand, you could make a wall mostly out of mortar, with a few rocks here and there, but it would probably crack, and no one wants that.

Im glad you thought our wall was well balanced. :)

Metal Gear Funnies

"That Was the Antithesis of Metal Gear Solid."

submission: Metal Gear Funnies
date: July 7, 2008

First of all let me just say that I don't mind when people point out rather childish things in games and make people laugh about it, but at this collab, laugh I did not.
Its one thing to have a little bit of childish humor about the name "snake", but to base an ENTIRE collab on penis jokes is just sick. Deosnt it seem weird that a bunch of GUYS would draw penises over and over again for their own delight? Thats borderline homosexual my friends, and therefore disgusting.
There was one skit that made me smirk, but every other one made me claw out my eyes at the terrible grahpics, and try and rip off my ears at the loud-as-you-can-scream-two-inches-awa y-from-the-mic audio.
There are no redeeming features about this entire flash project...if you can even call it flash. Spike Valentine has a MOVIE that is SHOWING IN THEATERS that is made in Flash, so this is definitley a viable medium to express yourself in. You and your fellow collaborators however bring shame to all the hard working flash artist who are trying to create masterpieces, not shovelware like this.
Normally I am very kind in my flash reviews and only look for the good in things, and I tell you what to do to fix it, and so my evaluation of this flash is: Sometimes its best to tear it all down and start from scratch with a fresh mindset, because this is a TERRIBLE Flash all the way around. Thats why its gets a ZERO out of Five, and it doesnt deserve to be on newgrounds at all, let alone the front page. To everyone reading this, don't watch it, just vote zero, and you'll be glad once you did. This was the biggest waste of time in my life, and I was so Irked that I decided to write this huge review so that other people wouldn't have to suffer through this horrendous excuse for boredom. Oh and if you haven't already, just come out of the closet, because no other kind of person would draw a man giving fellatio to himself. Thats Disgusting, and for Marilyn Manson Fans. Now that I have vented thouroughly, let me reinforce the fact that you get a Zero, and the next time you submit something, take a little pride in your morw, and don't be utterly childish in your sick "snake" jokes.

Pineapples

"Proof that a movie can rok with the right director"

submission: Pineapples
date: May 24, 2008

Wow, let me jsut say that for a very bare bones flash at the intro, it evolved into much more. Nice music, it was borderline annoying at times, but just catchy enough to evade that affliciton. At the moments when you weren't seeing how many loops you could fit on the screen at once, the FBF was fluid and nice. However, I must say that even the loops were jsut as nice. The humor was the highpoint of the movie, alongside of the action, and the situation lended to both. Who would have thought pineapples could be tied to Mortal Kombat? Regardless, you pulled it off. Nice transitions from scene to scene, especially when the MK characters faded into the stick figures. That was a glimpse into the mind of a good director. And let me say that even though it was simplistic, it was a great movie, and if your animation skills were as good as your directing skills, The great TOM FULP might have some competition. Im going to keep an eye on your flash, as it seems that we have a new great flash artist. So keep up the good work, and next time lets see what you can really do; push yourself to the limit, and make us truly amazed. I'll be waiting to review it.

P.S. 4/5

Tankmen Infinity

"Amazing Animation, but severly lacking taste."

submission: Tankmen Infinity
date: May 11, 2008

I have to hand it to you, this is probably some of the BEST and most amazing animation out there. I mean its better than some cartoons that come on T.V. Also, the writing is really funny, and with so much potential it hurts even more to be let down by a movie like this. It seems that you two could make some really amazing flash, and you arguably already have, but seriously what is up with the constant gay and dick jokes? I mean yeah for like one laugh they are alright, but when you show a cartoon guy getting tortured and having his crotch stabbed, its just, well not funny. I'm sorry it really isn't. Its tasteless and kind of pointless... I didn't laugh at it, and when they were talking aobut doing it, I wasn't laughing, I was kind of disgusted at the thought of it. On the other hand, the whole, "I think we found a suitable entry point for penetration" line, thats priceless. Stuff like that is funny, but subtle, and almost crossing the line, but still tasteful. Like I said, you could do great things with flash, and you have the imagination to do Anything, so why degrade your self to humor on par with toilet jokes? Technically it probably deserves to win Pico Day, but on a grade of style and taste, it was lacking. 3 out of 5. Sorry guys, maybe next time you will sell me on something.

"You have matured a lot!"

submission: Dreamboarding
date: May 10, 2008

Hey MRAW, Its me Shadow_Fox_Ninja, and I reviewed most of your other flashes (go reread them) and I just want to say this is the best thing you hav e done so far. YOu have matured as an artist, not only in the flash field, but in the expressive arts as well. Symbolism, tone, and voice all permeate this piece of visual rhetoric. I really have to revuiew this not as a flash movie, but as a novel, or essay. It goes beyond simple drawings and becomes its own entity: a masterpiece. Hopefully your instructor gave you a perfect score because in my opinion this is perfect. The fbf is like looking at the matured guy that you used to know as a child. It still retains the same style that you had, but on a much greater level. Beautifully in sync with the music, this piece is magnificent. As you can tell I am simply amazed. Stupendous job. Please by all means continue to devote your skills to the arts because flash movies like yours are the driving force that keep this medium alive. Thank you

"Pretty good."

submission: 3D [rollercoaster]

Hey good movie for one of your first uses with the program. It wasn't bad it jsut wasn't like totally awesome u know? Next time just smooth out the edges to give it a more streamlined look, and always always always start with the ride to the top of the first drop! and when you do that do the tick tick tick sound jsut to build the suspense, and make it a bit faster, and then Bam you have a 5 out of 5. But for this movie, good try, 3 out of . Ill review the next one, so..

As an Avid Nartuto Fan, am always looking for the next great Naruto Flash, and I believe I jsut found it! Great movie! Great visuals, nice FbF and even the tweening was great. Lots of humor, and the great thing about it was that you didnt do that much but you hit all the funny subject matter you needed to make this a hilarious movie. Great audio quality, it fit right on time like the real show intro. Wow great Flash, and I see no reason to stop this series. Please continue it, I loved it. Awesome Job..5 out of 5!

"Hey Pretty Sweet little Flash"

submission: Colours
date: May 18, 2007

HEy I told you that I would review all of your movies, and now I am...It just took me a little while to get to that.. :(....Any way tho it was a nice Flash overall, nice use of keeping it simple. I mean I know from your viewpoint it's not simple, but from the viewers point of view, it is simple clean well animated fun. I liked it. Good job with the frame-by-frame, it's smooth where it needs to be and abrupt in the right places. Normally it takes ppl a long time to figure out when to change from smooth tho choppy, but you have it down quite nicely. Overall great presentation, nice background music, it was a great way for you to set the mood. It was however just a little short, and you acknowledged that so I won't say any more, but even tho it was very clean and styalized, you could've added just a bit more to it, be it a background here and there, like the skyscraper part, that was nice. Idk what you could do, but hey thats why you are the Flash artist, and Im the reviewer. It was a surreal environment, and if you just like I said added a little bit more something to the backgrounds, you could have one Psuedo-Sweet ride on your hands. Overall nice flash, keep up the good work, and oh yah...5 outta 5. Good job man.
